Professional Development

  • The week of June 18 forty eight members of the St Paul’s faculty comprised of lower, middle, and upper school teachers attended a five day workshop for Writer’s Stylus conducted by Dr. Kevin Washburn.  Dr. Washburn is the creator of this innovative writing program as well as the co-author of Foundations and Frameworks the instructional reading program used in grades PreK-5, and the author of the instructional design model Architecture of Learning.  This curriculum was initiated in grades 1-5 last year with much success.  These newly trained teachers will be implementing this program that uniquely approaches writing instruction to create effective student writers.   For more information regard this writing program, please go to www.clerestorylearning.com
  • Additional professional development opportunities for our new teachers included instruction for the implementation of Architecture of Learning and Foundations and Frameworks.
  • Pre-Kindergarten through second grade teachers participated in workshops led by Sarah Cotton to enhance the use of interactive whiteboards in the classroom.  The Kindergarten teachers then continued with lessons in shared journals.
  • The Lower School P.E. department was represented by Judy Griffin and Gail Austin at the National P.E. Institute.  Renowned speakers and experts presented how to effectively use resources to foster new strategies for implementing stronger fitness, health, and obesity programs for K-12 children and adults.
