Kindergarten
Philosophy: St. Paul’s Kindergarten program is committed to teaching the whole child. The philosophy is to provide intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth experiences so that a child can develop a positive self-concept and enjoy learning. This program builds on the foundation established in Pre-Kindergarten and the children's home experiences. The program instills increased responsibility and independent decision-making, basic work habits, proper social interactions and responses to life situations through hands-on learning opportunities. Kindergarten is a vital yet pleasant step necessary to building a strong foundation for further learning.
Curriculum: The basis of the kindergarten program is to meet a spectrum of student needs from pre-reading to reading and pre-writing to writing. Basic math concepts, listening skills and following directions are an integral part of kindergarten. The curriculum is enhanced through social studies and science units, foreign language, fine arts, library, computer usage, media experience, as well as social and physical opportunities. A variety of approaches are used to make learning fun. The program is evaluated by observation and by working with the child individually, as well as in small and large groups.
