Library Grades Pre-K - 2

Lower School students in Pre-K through 2nd grade go to the library on the Lower School campus once a week. Pre-K and Kindergarten classes spend 40 minutes in the library each week. Along with their regular library time, character education is also taught using the “Mr. Pickle” curriculum in these grades. Students in 1st and 2nd grade classes spend 30 minutes in the library each week. During each session, all students in PK-2nd enjoy story time, computer time, and checking out books. Emphasis is placed on creating a love of reading and learning basic library skills. Different children's authors are featured each week with various special celebrations throughout the year.

Two different awards are given in the Lower School library in grades K-2. Every week Mrs. McDonald chooses the “Good Listener” in each class to help her scan the books that are being checked out. The good listener is also allowed to choose a special prize out of the treasure chest. Each month one class per grade level is chosen to win the “Golden Shelf Elf Award”. This award is given to the class that uses the best library manners that month. The “Golden Elf” lives in their classroom for the month and their class picture is hung by the library door for all to see!
