Gerry Strang served as Athletic Director of St. Paul’s School in Mobile, Alabama from 1997-2013. First hired at St. Paul’s in 1976, he has coached, taught, or been an administrator there for 31 of the last 34 years. Coach Strang has served as a physical education and weightroom instructor, head and assistant football coach, head baseball coach, and head slow-pitch and fast-pitch softball coach. His 1978 and 1979 baseball teams won the State Championship and the 2003, 2007, and 2008 fast-pitch softball teams qualified for the State Tournament.
A lifelong resident of Mobile, Strang graduated from McGill Institute where he played football, basketball, and baseball. A graduate of the University of South Alabama in 1976, he was the first college trainee for the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department. An avid flag football enthusiast, he coached and quarterbacked the Mobile “Bob Weinackers” Men’s team to 2 National Flag Football League Championships in 1986 and 1989. Coach Strang earned his Certified Athletic Administrators’ Certification in 2001 and was a recipient of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s “Athletic Director of the Year” Award in 2007.
Coach Strang and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 33 years and have a daughter, Christen, a graduate of St. Paul’s and Spring Hill College in Mobile.
