Activities
Boys’ and Girls’ Book Clubs
The first semester of school is set aside for our “All Boys Book Club”, while second semester is devoted to our “All Girls Book Club”. Voluntarily, 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls are invited to join. During monthly lunch meetings, the previous month’s book is discussed and new selections are distributed. Engaging books that appeal to our “boys only” and “girls only” club members are chosen. Students find themselves participating in lively lunch conversation where they are encouraged to share their thoughts and comments. Just another fun way to promote the love of reading at a young age!
4th Grade Study Buddy Club
Fourth graders can attend this afterschool club where assistance is given when needed for homework and projects. Each week we discuss specific study skills such as setting priorities, organizational skills, obstacles to concentration, developing a study plan, the importance of time management, and good note taking tips. We also discuss common test taking errors and the characteristics of different learning styles.
Reading Roundup
This 3rd and 4th grade afterschool special program is for enriching and reviewing comprehension skills that are being covered in students regular classrooms. Foundation and Frameworks comprehension focuses are reviewed and practiced. Fluency is reinforced through repeated timed readings and through the practice of poetry recitations. A variety of books, magazines, and games are used to reinforce key reading skills.
Meaningful Masterpieces
During the six-week course, we will learn about the lives of great painters and study many of their masterpieces. Each week we will create our own masterpiece in the style of the master we are learning. Move over Picasso, DaVinci, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh and make room for our budding artist! St. Paul’s third and fourth grade students are invited to join the fun as we dive into numerous fun art projects!
