Welcome to Spunky's Science Spot!

We learned about sinking and floating last week in the Lab. We had fun!

2nd graders enjoyed the WindBags by "catching air" and moving it!

1st grade is wrapping up the Solids and Liquids Study this week. We always record our findings in our Science Journal.

Many thanks to all who came by the Lab during Open House! We really appreciate all the donations to keep our animals and well fed and comfortable! Spunky loves his new cage Matthew Royster's family donated along with many other items!

We have learned our bodies have many parts to make them work!

Kindergarteners have learned there are different kinds of Bears and many interesting facts about them!

1st Grade has enjoyed investigating many types of solids and liquids!

We all have had a great time learning through exploration in the Lab this year. I hope you continue to use your scientific curiosity this summer! Remember to journal anything you want to share with us next year!

All second grade classes have been learning about animal classification. They had a field trip to the Zoo in Gulf Shores and Alligator Alley also! We have taken the knowledge we learned to create our own zoo habitats. Each child had to develop the proper environment and food necessary for all animals to survive! We all learned a great deal from this fun activity!

We are thrilled our first Silkworm emerged from it's white cocoon today! We have waited patiently for this event since our eggs hatched!

This week was our Mad Scientist Auction Adventure in the Lab for three lucky boys! They were treated to Root Beer floats and Pollman's Cookies. We made volcanoes erupt and our Lab Assistant Seth Gross ('05 class) guided them through a frog dissection. We ended our fun with Diet Coke and Mentos explosions! It was a fun time for all involved!

We have enjoyed watching our silkworms form twelve cocoons last week! It was really exciting to watch them hatch from eggs to growing larger daily and finally the silk cocoons were spun. We can hardly wait for them to pop out as moths next month!

We are all fascinated and thrilled to watch our butterflies emerge from their chrysalises!

All of our science classes have been mesmerized by the Monarch Caterpillars my Mom brought us from Dauphin Island last week. We were able to observe them eating and making their beautiful bright green chrysalis for several days.We are anxiously awaiting the emergence of all ten new butterflies to pop out! We are really hoping it happens before Spring Break!

Spunky had a fabulous weekend at Ella Frances Scott's home from the Auction Adventures! He enjoyed her dog, Duchess and hopping around in Ella Frances bathroom too! Many thanks to all in the Scott family for taking such good care of Spunky!

Our Painted Lady Butterflies hatched this week! All classes enjoyed viewing them in the Butterfly Habitat!

First Grade enoyed rotating through many insect centers as they worked on a variety of activities in the Lab.

We listened to our heart beat and learned about our organs!

Our Tadpoles are growing and swimming!

Our Silkworms arrived last week and popped out of their eggs! Now this week they are much bigger, we are observing the growth daily!

2nd grade investigated how things move by using a variety of objects. They were quite creative in their techniques!

Last Sunday our friendly neighborhood frogs left frog eggs in our fountain in front of the PK building! On Thursday, they popped out of their eggs. We are enjoying watching them change before our eyes! Keep watching for tadpole updates...!

All classes enjoyed exploring with Oobleck in honor of Dr. Seuss' 108th Birthday this week!

Mrs. McDonald read the Dr. Seuss book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck last week to all classes. We had a blast with the green slime in the Lab!

Oobleck is a unique substance that can have properties of a liquid and a solid. Be sure to ask your child about Oobleck! Click here to see more pictures!

First Graders enjoy "pink chewy" tablets that show us where to brush our teeth better!

We made self portraits of our smiles! We counted our teeth, subtracted ones lost and added ones that have grown in!

What a busy place our mouths are! 

We didn't see our shadows outside on Ground Hog's Day, but we learned how shadows are made in the Lab!

Our 2nd graders did a fabulous job on all their planet projects! They were very creative and some were even edible! See more photos.

 Our Transitional Kindergarten class has enjoyed learning about dinosaurs and their fossils. We made Plaster of Paris fossils with our dinosaurs! It was fun cracking them open to see our fossils!
