We are doing an author/illustrator unit on Mrs. McDonald's favorite...Mo Willems! You may know some of his characters...Knuffle Bunny, Piggie & Elephant, Pigeon (who really wants to drive the bus), Leonardo the Terrible Monster, Cat the Cat, Edwina the Dinosaur and the Naked Mole Rat. Mo Willems grew up not far from here in New Orleans, Louisiana. Did you know that when he makes up a character for his books, he always makes it simple enough so that we can learn to draw it? He is so cool!

Our 2nd grade classes have been reading "Flat Stanley" by Jeff Brown in the library this month. It's fun to hear about Stanley's crazy adventures while he is flat! We are finishing up the book this week and next (depending which class your child is in)! The kids are excited to color their own Flat Stanley soon! We will begin this next week. Flat Stanley will go home with your child over Mardi Gras break. I know your child's Flat Stanley will be excited to go on his/her own adventures! You may take it on an adventure or mail it to a friend or family member instead. On March 19th we will have a "Flat Stanley Homecoming Celebration" in the gym. All of the children will display their Flat Stanley projects on this day. More details about the project will be sent home with your child's Flat Stanley in February.
