2011 - Robbie Baker

In 2011 the Distinguished Alumnus Award was presented to G. Robert “Robbie” Baker, Jr. ’83 at the 6th Annual Alumni Luncheon May 5, 2011.  Robbie is South Alabama region president and senior vice president for Whitney National Bank. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Rhodes College where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the recipient of the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award, among others. He earned a master of business administration degree from Tulane University in 1994. Robbie received Whitney’s Golden Clock Award for Management Excellence in 2001. He is active with the United Way of Southwest Alabama, the Rotary Club of Mobile Sunrise, Mobile Arts and Sports Association and the Mobile Touchdown Club. Robbie is currently chairman of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Chamber’s Board of Advisors. He is the treasurer of Vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and serves on the St. Paul’s Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.  Robbie is married to Melissa Hayes Baker, former Lady Saints Basketball Coach and current Lady Saints Tennis Coach, and is the proud father of Ellie (Class of 2021) and Hayes (Class of 2025).
