Libraries at St. Paul's

Fun Fact:

The Library Resources page is the most used external page on our website.

There are three libraries serving students and faculty at St. Paul's, one each for Grades PreK-2, Grades 3-6, and Grades 7-12. The program at each library is designed to support the curriculum, teach information literacy, encourage pleasure reading, and add enrichment to the educational experience. Collections offer a mix of print materials, such as books and magazines, and a variety of electronic and online resources. By going to the St. Paul's website, students may access all library catalogs and online resources from any computer on campus as well as from home.

Library Grades PreK-2

Lower School students in Pre-K through 2nd grade go to the library on the Lower School campus once a week. Pre-K and Kindergarten classes spend 40 minutes in the library each week. Along with their regular library time, character education is also taught using the “Mr. Pickle” curriculum in these grades. Students in 1st and 2nd grade classes spend 30 minutes in the library each week. During each session, all students in PK-2nd enjoy story time, computer time on Apple iPads that provide interactive stories, and checking out books. Emphasis is placed on creating a love of reading and learning basic library skills. Different children's authors are featured each week with various special celebrations throughout the year.

Two different awards are given in the Lower School library in grades K-2. Every week Mrs. McDonald chooses the “Good Listener” in each class to help her scan the books that are being checked out. The good listener is also allowed to choose a special prize out of the treasure chest. Each month one class per grade level is chosen to win the “Golden Shelf Elf Award”. This award is given to the class that uses the best library manners that month. The “Golden Elf” lives in their classroom for the month and their class picture is hung by the library door for all to see!

Library Grades 3-6

The library for grades 3-6 is located in the IS/MS Media Center on the Dogwood Campus. Each class uses their scheduled library time for book checkout, library skills and technology instruction. Morning and afternoon hours are flexible so that students may return books, choose new books, or take Accelerated Reader quizzes. Students may check out two books and keep them for a week and have access to four Accelerated Reader Stores each year. The goal of this library is to provide an attractive media center which welcomes and encourages students to enjoy a wide variety of age appropriate fiction and nonfiction books.

Library Grades 7-12

The Upper/Middle School Library serves grades 7-12. Students come during study halls and frequently gather before and after school for research, reading, and study. Library hours are 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Fridays.

Teachers bring their classes to receive instruction and to research topics. Library staff is available for help with technology, book selection, and research. A copier, scanner, and two laser printers (color and monochrome) are also accessible.
