Inside Athletics 3/15/2023

It was a packed house at St. Paul’s on March 11 for the 3rd Annual Jim Tate Relays.  We hosted 22 teams and almost 1300 athletes.  

Senior Mac Conwell, Sophomore Janie Ford, and Junior Emily Miles were double gold at the meet. Conwell is back after injury and won the 1000m (2:33.45) and the 1600m (4:24.06) which was part of the 4x1600m winning relay also made up of Senior Jonathan Rush, Junior Philip Gill, and Sophomore Wesley Robinson.  

Janie Ford won the 100m hurdles in 14.64 and set a new school record while winning the 300m hurdles in 44.08. She was also second in the triple jump (37-3) and ran a blistering sub 55 second split on the winning Co-Ed 4x400m relay team. Her phenomenal teammates were Senior Evan Wrights (49 split), Junior Pape Davidson (52 split) and Senior Carley Perkins (59 split). Their winning time was 3:36.35 which is a competitive time for an all boys race.  

Junior Emily Miles won the 600m (1:40.00) and 1000m (3:06.79) in dominating fashion showing off her combination of strength speed and endurance.

Junior Clarissa Dupree - 5th in High Jump 4-6
Junior Hayden Sayner - Oubre -1000m 7th
Garrett Walker - high jump - 7th place
Freshman William Strickland - 7th in discus
Junior Lauren Parker -8th place - shot put
Senior Jonathan Rush - 8th place 1000m
Senior Colleen Luttrell - 8th Place pole vault
The boys sprint medley relay of 8th grader Caleb Flynt, Senior Chris Bracy, Junior Jaboris Stone, and Freshman Anthony Frasier was 8th.
The girls sprint medley of Junior Neely Benton, Sadie Carrington, 7th grader Leah Tillman, and Junior Anne Stockman was 2nd!
The 4x100m girls throwers only team of Lauren Parker, Bea Ogden, Lee Vella Courtney, and Georgia LeDoux was 5th!
The girls 4x1600m relay of junior Emma Gage, Freshman Lydia Sayner Oubre, 7th grader Caroline McFarland, and Junior Katherine Purdum was 5th!

This huge event could not have been so successful without the help of the administration, parent and student volunteers and coaches! It was a true team effort. Go Saints!

Softball
Softball went 4-3 for the week, defeating Vigor 16-0, Leroy 4-3 and Sweetwater12-0.  Pitchers Caroline McLendon, Madeline Howard, Ava Voris and Amelia Robinson collected 63 strikeouts in 35 innings.  Caroline and Amelia combined for a No-hitter and Madeline threw a No hitter as well.

Offensively,  the Saints were led by Caroline with a 467 batting average, Maddie Stokley with a 462 average, and Morgan Maples with a 409 average.

Overall we are 8-5, 1-0 in area play, with a huge area game at Faith on Tuesday at 5:30.
