Stone Smith named Mobile Optimist Club's 6A-7A Runner of the Week

Congratulations to Stone Smith, who is being recognized as the Mobile Optimist Club's 6A-7A Runner of the Week for his performance at the Azalea City Classic on September 9.  At that race, Stone finished 4th overall in a time of 16:59.91 for the 5000m course.  That finish helped the Saints to their third team win of the season.
Stone was an All-State performer at last year's 7A state championship meet.  He has a personal best of 15:49.42 for 5000m, which is an average pace of 5:05.52 per mile over the 3.1 mile distance.  Stone is also the 11th grade class president, a member of the Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, the Writing Center, and one of the founding members of the Waffle House Club at St. Paul's.  He is a Headmasters' List student.

Stone's talents extend far beyond the cross country course and the classroom, however.  He can complete a Rubix Cube in just 31 seconds, and he once ran a mile around the track while continuously dribbling a basketball in only 5:26.  One of Stone's main strengths is the way that he encourages and nurtures his younger teammates.  Stone has a great feel for what each person on the team needs to get better, and he regularly uses that ability to make our team better.  Whether it is a pep talk before the race, giving someone training tips, or letting coach know about something that needs to be addressed, Stone is always there to do what's needed for the team.
