William Jameson named the Mobile Optimist Club's 6A-7A Runner of the Week
Congratulations to William Jameson, who was named the Mobile Optimist Club's 6A-7A Runner of the Week for the week of September 27 through October 3. He was recognized as the runner of the week because of his race at the Jesse Owens Classic on October 2. At this race, William set a new personal best time of 16:20 for the 5000 meter distance. That performance also helped the Saints to a 3rd place finish as a team against the best teams and runners from a five-state area. In the process, the Saints broke the school record for the fastest 1-5 average in school history, recording a 16:13 team average. That school record eclipsed the previous school record, set in 2020, by more than 12 seconds. William was the #3 runner for the Saints on both of those record breaking teams.
In 2019, William was also a member of the school record 4x1600m relay team. He is also an elite swimmer on the St. Paul's varsity swim team. In 2020, he contributed to a new all-time, all-classification state record in the 200 yard medley relay. William swam the breaststroke leg of that relay. The fact that he can compete at such a high level in both of these grueling sports at the same time is a testament to both his talent and his toughness. The thing that separates William from his competition is his extreme pain tolerance. He can push himself harder than nearly any other athlete out there.
William is at least as accomplished in the classroom as he is in athletics. He has never made below a 95 in a class in his life. He’s maintains a 4.6 GPA. William made a nearly perfect score of 1590 on the SAT, and to date he has made a perfect score of 5 on all six of the AP exams that he’s taken. He balances a rigorous schedule of honors and AP courses while serving his community as an active member of the Key Club. In addition to that, he is a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, the Waffle House Club, the SGA, and Youth Judicial. Last year, William won the Harvard Book Award and the Mu Alpha Theta Award – proving that both the right side and the left side of his brain are firing on all cylinders. William is being recruited to compete collegiately in the sport of swimming by the following schools: US Air Force Academy, US Naval Academy, Princeton, MIT, and the University of Chicago.
