Today’s Senior Spotlight is Emily Miles. She is a multiple time All County selection in the sports of cross country and soccer. This year, she won the County Championship in cross country. She is also the leading scorer on the varsity soccer team.
In October of 2021, Emily tore her ACL in a soccer tryout. That ended her sophomore year of cross country. It took her out of soccer and track as well. For most of the next year, she underwent arduous rehab under the careful guidance of her coach and physical therapist Christine Conrad. Not everything went smoothly, but Emily never got discouraged and Christine never let up.
By the summer of 2022, Emily could still barely run 2-3 miles without developing knee pain. But she kept slowly building up her training. Her first race back was the JV race at the Faith Academy Boardwalk Challenge. She finished in the top 5 in that JV race. The next week, Emily scored for the team in the varsity race. She never looked back and kept on improving from that day forward. Emily is now the third fastest 1600m runner in school history. She will compete for the University of South Alabama next year.
Here’s what one of her teammates had to say about Emily:
“Emily is the most determined person I’ve ever met. No matter how many setbacks she faces, she always keeps going and comes back stronger.”
