About

History

Being rooted and established in love.

St. Paul's Episcopal School was founded in 1947 with one section of twenty Kindergarten students. William S. Mann, the Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, nurtured the development of the parish school from 1953 until its incorporation in 1968. The little school grew steadily, adding sections and grades over the ensuing years. By 1965, enrollment had reached 243 students.
The next decade would prove to be a transformational one for St. Paul’s.  In 1968, St. Paul’s ceased to be a parish school; it was incorporated as an independent institution with a plan to create a complete K-12 education program.  In support of this goal, the school purchased the core of its current Dogwood Lane campus in 1969; this expansion included the main building and five acres of land.  This allowed for rapid expansion in 1974, the first graduation was held for 73 seniors. That year, St. Paul's had grown to 53 employees and 800 students!

In the years since, St. Paul’s has been blessed with outstanding, visionary leadership.  It has expanded its enrollment, facilities, and educational programs while remaining true to its Episcopal identity and maintaining a close relationship with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  Today, 185 faculty and staff members serve over 1200 students, sending 100 well-prepared graduates into the world each year.
A distinct St. Paul's culture has developed during the past 75 years - one that values the principles embraced by our philosophy and mission statement.  Our school is imbued with the Christian principles of integrity, character, honor, self-discipline, service, and spiritual growth.  Innumerable rich traditions have developed as the school has grown and matured, and the ever-growing list of accomplishments of our alumni are a source of great pride.

St. Paul’s is grounded in our traditions and values, but we are also forward-looking and committed to evolving as a school of excellence.  With these two principles - historical integrity and future focus – guiding us, we can be confident that the next chapters of our history will be exciting ones.
