Mac Conwell Named Mobile Optimist Club’s 6A Track and Field Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to St. Paul’s junior Mac Conwell on being named the Mobile Optimist Club’s 6A Track and Field Athlete of the Year.  This is the second consecutive year that Mac has been selected for this award.  Mac was undefeated against local competition for the entire indoor and outdoor track seasons.  He came into this school year as the school record holder in all four distance events – 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and 5000m.  This year, he has further improved on all four of those school records.  He finished this year with the fastest time in the state (regardless of classification) in both the 1600m and the 5000m, and the 2nd fastest time in the state in the 3200m.

Mac was also 2nd place at this year’s AHSAA 7A Cross Country State Championship meet, leading the Saints to a second place finish as a team.  Mac followed that up by winning the 6A state title in both the indoor 800m and indoor 3200m.  In the outdoor track season, he won the 6A state title in the 1600m with a new school record time of 4:09.76.  Mac is also a member of the school record 4x1600m, 4x800m, and distance medley relay teams.  In cross country, he was a part of the fastest ever #1 through #5 team average in school history.  He is a member of the Key Club and on the Headmaster’s List at St. Paul’s.  Mac recently committed to Auburn University, where he will continue both his academic and athletic career.
