Senior Spotlight: Hollis Martin

Today’s Senior Spotlight is Hollis Martin. Hollis started cross country in 7th grade. The summer before his senior year he set a goal to make the varsity team, and he achieved that goal in a big way. He finished 4th on the team in summer mileage, and that laid the foundation for a season in which he took over 2 minutes off his time in the 5km.

One word comes to mind when you think of Hollis - humble. He’s never one to talk about himself. He just keeps on working and improving. It’s been awesome to see him reap the benefits of that hard work.

It’s no secret that Hollis’ favorite course is Daphne’s course at Blakeley Park. No one can explain why, but there’s something between Hollis and that course that’s just magic. This year, though, he’s been very successful on other courses as well.

Also, early on Hollis was always very helpful whenever the fieldhouse needed to be cleaned. Later on we found out that he preferred cleaning to doing core exercises. Yet to this day, he can take the lead in making the fieldhouse look good. Though Hollis is serious about his goals, he’s also fun to be around. It’s great that he’s learned how to balance hard work with a sense of humor.

Here’s what a parent of Hollis’ teammate said about him:

“We are so thankful for Hollis and his fun personality. He showed compassion and encouragement to our son and made him feel a part of the team.”

Keep on chasing your goals, Hollis!
