Senior Spotlight: Haydn Sayner Oubre

Today’s Senior Spotlight is Haydn Sayner Oubre. Like most of his friends, Haydn joined the team as a seventh grader. That friend group have added others along the way, building the nucleus of a dominant program. Haydn wasn’t one of the fastest when he started, but by his 9th grade year he’d improved enough to win the Junior High County Championship. He won it on the same day that his younger sister Lydia won the Junior High County Championship. It was certainly a day to remember!

Haydn’s big breakthrough race came his 10th grade year at the state championship meet, where he ran a huge PR. Ever since that day, he’s consistently been one of the team’s top 7 runners. This year, he’s consistently been in the team’s top 5.

Haydn had a great junior year of track. He made the varsity 4x800m relay team which won the 6A state championship. Haydn also made the All County cross country team his junior year. His best leadership skill is that he’s willing to say the tough things to his teammates that need to be said. He’s willing to be unpopular with them if it means he can identify an area where the team can improve, point it out, and then try to fix it.

Here’s what a parent of one of Haydn’s teammates had to say about Haydn:

“Our son has really enjoyed running with Haydn this season! He’s been so kind and encouraging!”
