Senior Spotlight: Philip Gill

Today’s Senior Spotlight is Philip Gill. Philip has been doing cross country and track since 7th grade. His breakthrough year was in 10th grade. The success he’s had since then has made people forget he was ever slow. But make no mistake about it - for his first two years on the team, Philip was one of the slowest runners we’ve had. That’s a testament to his determination and work ethic. It’s only been by working harder than everyone else for years at a time that Philip got to where he is today.

Early on, Philip was one of the more conscientious about his running logs. He’s continued that diligence till today. That’s been the secret to his success. No fancy workouts, no tricks or gimmicks, just consistent hard work.

Philip’s top leadership skill is his reliability. He does the right thing every time, and in so doing provides the perfect example for his teammates to follow. His three younger brothers followed his lead by joining him on the team.

Here’s what some of his teammates had to say about Philip:

“Philip has been an awesome training partner who is always exactly on pace for workouts. It’s so easy to train with him and we always have fun.”

“No matter who you’re with, if Philip is there, he’s undoubtedly the hardest worker in the room. He’s humble and confident, and that’s a combination you just don’t see very often. I feel so blessed to have been his teammate and I hope I can grow into being the kind of big brother he is to his younger brothers.”

Well done Philip!
